Jensen follows the events of the Mormon War in Missouri through the eyes of John Evans, a Mormon who joined the church and migrated to Missouri, and Sam Devine, an opinionated Missouri frontiersman, as well as other members of their families. Just as Sam’s son, Jake, suffers abuse at the hands of his father, the Mormons suffer at the hands of Missouri residents. They struggle to define their spirituality in the years leading up to the bloody crucible of 1838, but despite the violence, hatred, and growing tension between the two groups, Jake finds love and acceptance in those he used to call infidels. He and others like him are being pulled in two different moral directions, and as the conflict grows near, it’s their actions that will determine whether the outcome is tragedy or redemption. Written with dedicated detail, Adder in the Path convincingly chronicles the traumatic struggles of two adolescents testing love in an aggressive environment, the time-enduring human struggle of being true to one’s self, defining the nature of God, and demanding human dignity and moral courage.

  • Interesting People
  • Diverse, lively conversations
  • Rare, beautiful and valuable books
  • Drinks and finger food
  • Rare book deals and...
  • Smart fun.

In the spirit of a mostly bygone era, the Collectors Book Salon is meant to foster conversation, friendship and discourse among book collectors in our area. WBW will provide hors d’oeuvres and beverages and make available special deals for collectors in attendance.

Besides the books themselves, the most notable pleasure of working with rare books is meeting and conversing with persons who read and collect them. Book people are among the brightest, most creative and open-minded persons anywhere. As Tony often says, “ideas fly around this bookstore like dust.”

It is our plan to bring the bright, diverse, unique, thoughtful persons of this very old cultural avocation together for spirited conversation and mutual enjoyment. Persons with interest in rare book collecting who may not have yet built collections are encouraged to attend the salon where opportunities to understand the passions of other collectors will be abundant. Guests may come and go at any time during the affair.

Friday, September 28, from 6:30 until 9:00pm in Weller Book Works at Trolley Square in the Rare Book room.

For more information, please contact Tony Weller or Joan Nay at 801-328-2586 or by email to joan@wellerbookworks.com.
