Collector's Book Salon: Daniel Davison
Since the inception of Weller Book Works Collectors’ Book Salons in 2012, we’ve hosted more and heard more than 75 stories, taken knowledge from more than 60 bibliophiles.
Book collector, writer and antiquarian, Daniel Davison was our invited speaker at our February Salon last year on a very stormy Friday. That day was so cold and wet that Daniel’s extremely lively presentation was enjoyed by only a few. So we have invited him back for another on March 29th. Daniel Davison is a fascinating speaker with an envy inspiring memory. His enthusiasm for great books is palpable and contagious. Mr. Davison’s Collectors’ Chat is titled Samuel Johnson and A Dictionary of the English Language. He'll discuss the life and times of Dr. Samuel Johnson (1709-1784), renowned scholar, littérateur and lexicographer. The discussion will focus on the 1755 publication of Johnson’s Dictionary of the English Language. Mr. Davison will also recount anecdotes from Johnson’s life, share famous Sam Johnson bons mots and show books and facsimiles from his private collection.
The Collectors’ Book Salon on April 26th, will feature our friend, colleague and noted collector Brent Ashworth. This Salon will be a little different because a book about Brent’s interesting life and amazing books, papers and antiques was published since Brent last spoke at our salon in 2016. Show and Tell: A Unique Journey through History from the Life of Brent Ashworth, by Traci McFarland Fieldsted was published in 2017. So, the April Salon will be held in the manner of an author event but in this case, Brent Ashworth, subject of the book, will show select treasures and tell us stories about each of them. Ms Fieldsted may join us as well. Socializing begins at 6:30 and Brent will speak at 7:15.
