The Story Pirates are here!!!
On Thursday, April 18, at 6:30 PM, join us as we welcome The Story Pirates to Trolley Square for a FREE LIVE PERFORMANCE!
Story Pirates is a media company founded in 2004 to celebrate the words and ideas of kids. It all started in a Harlem school auditorium when a group of friends put on an absurdist sketch comedy show based on stories written by kids. Since then, we’ve launched a hit radio show, the #1 podcast for kids and families, a live tour which performs from coast to coast, and a critically acclaimed middle-grade book series from Random House. Our first book, “Stuck in the Stone Age,” debuted in the Spring of 2018, and our second book, “Digging up Danger,” was released January, 2019. Our debut album, “Nothing Is Impossible,” won the Family Choice Award and the National Parenting Product Award.
The Story Pirates are proud to be a leading advocate for arts education. Through Story Pirates Changemakers, their partner non-profit, the Pirates provide life-changing literacy and creative writing programs in New York and Los Angeles to thousands of kids in Title I schools and homeless shelters.
The Story Pirates are passionate about elevating the value of kids’ voices. That’s why they have assembled some of the funniest people on the planet to bring kids’ words and ideas to life. In the past, Jon Stewart has graced their stage, as has John Oliver, Ana Gasteyer, Reggie Watts, Billy Eichner, Patton Oswalt, Aubrey Plaza, and Conan O’Brien, to name just a few. Story Pirates has become a breeding ground for up-and-coming comedians, writers and musicians. Several of their alums have gone on to write for or star on Saturday Night Live, and you’d be hardpressed to find a late night show or popular sitcom that hasn’t had a Story Pirate on staff. We don't know who will be joining the Story Pirates for this tour...could be anybody! The important thing is they perform as a group, not a collection of individuals, dedicated to kids' voices. The story is the thing!
Story Pirates will be performing at Abravanel Hall on Saturday, April 20, but we're jazzed they are coming to perform for us first! The event will take place in the South Court of Trolley Square, just outside Wellers front doors. Copies of both "Stuck in the Stone Age" and "Digging Up Danger" will be available. Bring the kids for this unique and exciting event!
