This is by far the most immersive horror novel I have read. Pessl combinines a variety of sources to further the story such as news clippings, blog posts, and evidence files. Genuinely horrifying and absolutely enjoyable.
Though East of Eden is one of my favorite books, I would recommend Cannery Row more. It has a massive cast of colorful characters that you can't grow tired of. It is a beautiful novel depicting friendship within a small community.
Joe Hill has a magical way of writing. His characters instantly become your favorite and he manages to wrap macabre and beauty together. Horns, in my opinion, is one of Hill's best works.
Wonderfully depressing is one of the best ways I can describe this book. Trust me it is something that can be understood as you finish the novel.
